Janna Slack
Trained Birth Doula (DONA)
Following a life-long fascination with birth, Janna began supporting families as a birth doula in December of 2009 after working in the non-profit sphere. She grew up on Maui, an environment that fostered a unique perspective on birth in any child who was interested--specifically that it has the power to be an incredibly transformative, beautiful, empowering experience. The primary goal of her work as a doula is to see more babies born gently and safely to empowered mothers, welcomed into their families with powerful love and profound joy. Recognizing that every birth is as unique as each mom, baby, partner and family, Janna works through observation, direct communication and intuition to tailor her support techniques to a family's specific needs, discerning how best to increase a woman's comfort and peace of mind and doing so efficiently and with great care. Her methods include massage, lighting and atmospheric changes, guarding privacy, beneficial positions, breath coaching and encouragement, physical comfort measures and hypnosis (she is a trained Hypnobabies doula.) Every situation and environment is unique and each family has their own vision for their birth. Janna seeks to support their best birth as they define it. She speaks Spanish and French which enable her to be in service of diverse communities.
